1. History

In 2015, the Ministry of Education launched “Capacity Building Initiatives for Advancing Institutional Management”, encouraging higher education institutions to set up an institutional research office with the goal to establish an evidence-based decision-making model to improve the higher education practice. National Chiao Tung University and National Yang Ming University established the Big Data Research Center and Office of Institutional Research in 2015 and 2016, respectively. In February 2021, the two universities officially merged into National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), and both units were then unified into the Center of Institutional Research and Data Analytics (CIRDA). In addition to conducting institutional research and maintaining university’s data warehouse, CIRDA has also been put in charge of promoting the core values of sustainable development on campus and enhancing NYCU’s international visibility and reputation.

The Center for Institutional Research and Data Analytics has expanded its organizational structure to include the following four secondary units to serve National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University:

Communication & Outreach: responsible for promoting university’s achievements and reputation using multimedia platforms
Data Governance: responsible for the management of data warehouse and the development and maintenance of a public platform to inform stakeholders about our institutional information
Institutional Research: responsible for institutional program evaluation and providing data-informed decision support for various topics associated with teaching and learning to ensure the quality of education
Strategic Planning & Assessment: responsible for evaluating organizational effectiveness and supporting strategic planning and quality enhancement

2. Data Services

To provide better and safer data services, NYCU integrates the Research and Resource Center for Health Statistics (including the facilities from Health and Welfare Data Science Center or HWDC and its research consultation and collaboration services) into CIRDA starting in 2022. 3. Future Development

To support NYCU’s missions, we expand the scope of our development plans:

Increasing university’s reputation and visibility through multimedia creation
Optimizing data warehouse system to provide better data services
Fulfilling university’s responsibility to disclose institutional information and provide public access to institutional information online
Providing institutional research and analysis services to support decision-making
Promoting university social responsibility and sustainable development

2015.07

The Ministry of Education approved the application of “Capacity Building Initiatives for Advancing Institutional Management” project by NCTU.
2015.12

「Big Data Research Center」officially became the first-level administrative unit.
2016.04

Approved the inclusion of the “Big Data Research Center” in the articles of association of NCTU.
2016.06

NYMU Office of Institutional Research was officially established.
2017.04

The Ministry of Education approved the application of “Capacity Building Initiatives for Advancing Institutional Management” project by NYMU.
2021.02

After the two universities officially merged, the two research units were unified into Center for Institutional Research and Data Analytics or CIRDA. The new unified center is now responsible for conducting institutional research and providing data-informed decision support.
2022.02

Four secondary organization units are formed: Communication & Outreach, Data Governance, Institutional Research, and Strategic Planning & Assessment.
2022.05

Research and Resource Center for Health Statistics is integrated into CIRDA.
